“Did you know?”
Otis Boykin

Boykin, who took a special interest in working with resistors, began researching and inventing on his own. He sought and received a patent for a resistor that would later be used in radios and televisions.

Two years later, he created a breakthrough device that could withstand extreme changes in temperature and pressure and came in great demand by the United States military for guided missiles and IBM for computers.  His most famous invention was a control unit for the pacemaker.

Computers

Computer definition, a programmable electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations. Mainframes, desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones are some of the different types of computers.

“Did you know?”

Computers are not really that smart.  Computers have only two symbols in their language, 0 and 1.  It is the ultra-fast processing of the combinations of 0s and 1s that allows the computer to understand and perform actions and calculations. This language is called the Binary Language and sometimes referred to as Digital.

“Did you know?”

Roy L. Clay, Black Godfather of Silicon Valley

In 1965, he created and headed the Hewlett-Packard computer division. It was the first computer company in the Silicon Valley.

In 1966, Roy and his team created the HP-2116, the world’s first mini-computer. The HP-2116 mini-computer was unlike any other computer in the world at that time. All other computers were huge machines that filled special rooms that had to be air-conditioned.

Roy’s mini-computer, which was about the size of a small, under-the-counter refrigerator, was designed to stand alone and survive.
